Success at Spa for Engine Developments Ltd

by John Judd | May 12, 2015 | Le Mans

Engine design. UK engine manufactureTEAM SARD MORAND made an impressive debut in the World Endurance Championship race at the Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. The team qualified second on the grid, led the race and finished in a very creditable third place in the LMP2 class after a trouble-free race.

The team, drivers Pierre Ragues, Oliver Webb and Zoel Amberg and their #43 Morgan EVO SARD, powered by the Engine Developments Ltd designed and supplied Judd HK V8 LMP2 engine, could not have dreamed of a better start in the WEC after the existence of the team was jeopardised when a sponsor withdrew their support following the pre-season test.

Oliver Webb started the race. After taking the lead on lap 1, the British driver drove a consistent double stint, keeping the #43 car in the top 5 of the LMP2 class. He was 4th when he handed over to Pierre Ragues after 90 minutes of racing, the Frenchman driving flawlessly during his double stint. The third driver, Swiss Zoel Amberg, proved as consistent as his team mates handing the car over in 4th place to Oliver Webb to allow him to complete the final stint. Oliver moved into third place when the car holding that position retired, and took the chequered flag, allowing the team to celebrate a great result after a perfect race.
