Sebring, Florida
The Krohn Racing team were optimistic of a good result in the Sebring 12 hours race, held on Saturday 21st March. Their Ligier JS Judd HK LMP2 had led the charts in two practice sessions earlier in the week, never dipping below third place on the timing screens, and in the hands of Frenchman Olivier Pla set a new qualifying track record on Friday afternoon at Sebring International Raceway. He piloted the popular green-and-blue No. 57 to a time of 1:51.152 and a speed of 121.131 mph around the 3.74-mile circuit.
Starting from pole position, Pla led the race for 20 laps, posting the fastest overall race lap on lap 7. Unfortunately the team’s progress was hindered following a pit lane accident, which was caused by another car being prematurely released from its pit, necessitating a repair to the damage. The car was further delayed following an on-track altercation, necessitating a lengthy pit stop to change an exhaust component, which resulted in a further 4 laps being lost.
The car completed the final 6 hours without incident, rising from 34th place to finish 8th overall, the only LMP2 car to see the chequered flag at the end of the gruelling race.
