Bonneville salt flats, August 2018
Congratulations to Reg Cook and the entire CMR team on their successful initial runs at the Bonneville land speed record ‘Speed Week’ with their self designed & built, Judd V10 powered, streamliner. Reg is a multiple land speed record holder and approached us last year as he wanted a powerful 3 litre engine for his 2018 attempt. We built him a 3 litre V10 , an evolution of the Judd/Yamaha Formula 1 engines of the 1990s, and updated with a new design sump, pumps and modern engine management system. The engine hit the performance target on the dyno, achieving 700 hp @ 15,000 rpm.
Quote from the CMR team :
“Does this make us the fastest Formula One Powered car in the world?
August 15 2018 our New Zealand Streamliner WAIRUA ran a 458.6kph / 285 mph top speed (on board data logger) at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. Powered by our 1990’s era F1 3L V10 Judd-Yamaha, she makes an exceptional sight and sound at this amazing home of racing.
She’s now in impound ready to back the record up in the morning. But this is just the start of what we hope to achieve with her this year, taking this engine to over 300mph (482kph).
Massive thanks to Sammy Harris for the video clip”
